Also known as the “Arc de Triomphe of the East”, Charminar, is one of the most popular tourist destinations to visit in Hyderabad. Tracing its origin back to the late 1500s Charminar was originally built as a mosque. Adorning four towers in each corner, the minarets on each side is 48.7 m in height. Built by Sultan Mohammed Quli Qutub Shah in the honour of his wife Bhagmati, Charminar has 45 prayer spaces which are visited by people till date. Built by the Qutub Shahi Kings, this former capital of the Qutub Shahi Dynasty presents an impressive structure with walls that are 15 – 18 foot in height, a parameter of around 11 km, eight gates and eighty – seven bastions. This citadel is one of the famous picnic spots in Hyderabad. Being excavated during Ibrahim Quli Qutub Shah’s reign in 1562 AD, this jewel of Hyderabad is one of the most romantic places to visit in the city. Considered as one of the largest man – made lakes in the heart of the city, Hussain Sagar Lake got its name after Hussain Shah Wali. Located at the top of a 280 – foot – high hillock of Kalapahad, the beautiful Birla Mandir covers an enormous area of 13 acres. Constructed in 1976, the temple has derived its name from the famous industrialist Birlas. This architectural marvel has drawn its architecture from the amalgamation of three known architectural designs including South Indian Architecture, Utkal Temple architecture and Rajasthani Architecture. The major attraction of the temple is the 11 feet tall statue of Lord Lakshminarayana with a magnificent lotus carved around it.
